Bruce Irvin dominant and other WVUPros notes from NFL Week 15
We recap this week that was in Week 15 of the NFL season, starting with Bruce Irvin’s big game.
Raiders 19 vs. Chargers 16
A disruptive Bruce Irvin stepped out of Khalil Mack’s shadow to wreak havoc on the Chargers offense. He sacked Philip Rivers twice and hit him a third time as he attempted a pass which led to a game-ending interception and forced a fumble.
Irvin often refers to himself now as ‘Robin’ to Mack’s ‘Batman’ as he embraces the dynamic duo moniker. He did so after this game.
“Robin kind of showed up today,” Irvin said. “Robin woke up with a pep in his step.
“I had a good breakfast, I just felt good overall the whole situation when I woke up, so I’m just happy I could contribute and just comes out of here with this W.”
Irvin has now had a sack in four of the last five games and with 7.0 on the season, is one off his career high.
“I’d say this is probably the most consistent I’ve been in the five years I’ve been in the league,” Irvin said after the game. “But I still got a long way to go. I still got a lot of critiquing to do in my game, but I’m definitely on a roll and I’m definitely playing some good ball right now.”
He also forced his fifth fumble this season in the game. That ties him for second in the NFL in that category with . . . Khalil Mack.
A dynamic duo indeed.
Browns 13 vs. Bills 33
The Browns promoted Mario Alford to their active roster on Saturday. After being released by the Bengals following this past preseason, he has been a free-agent and was at one time a member of the New York Jets practice squad. He was active against Buffalo, but did not have any catches.
Colts 34 vs. Vikings 6
Pat McAfee punted three times for a 42.7 yard average, pinning two inside the 20.
Rams 3 vs. Seahawks 24
In the first game of the post-Jeff Fisher era, Tavon Austin tallied 27 total yards on offense. An improving Mark Glowinski got the start for Seattle.
Eagles 26 vs. Ravens 27
The Eagles scored with six seconds remaining in the game to draw to within one point. Instead of kicking a game-tying PAT, Philly decided to go for a two-point conversion that was unsuccessful. Najee Goode had one tackle in the contest.
Steelers 24 vs. Bengals 20
After jumping out to an early lead, the Bengals managed just 38 yards of total offense in the second half allowing the Steelers come from behind victory. Adam Jones had three tackles and broke up two passes.
Packers 30 vs. Bears 27
Nick Kwiatkoski had five tackles (one for a loss) for the Bears in their last-second defeat at the hands of Green Bay. He now has 28 total tackles this season, but 22 have come in the last three games.
Buccaneers 20 vs. Cowboys 26
Keith Tandy continued to impress in his stint as a starter for the Bucs, compiling 14 tackles against Dallas. In his second game since returning from I.R., Charles Sims had 19 total yards for Tampa.
Panthers 26 vs. Redskins 15
Daryl Worley had 5 tackles after being matched against Pierre Garcon for most of the night. Terence Garvin had one tackle for Washington.
